Many Australian families lives are turned upside down and put on hold by a cancer diagnosis.

As anyone who has experienced cancer firsthand knows, it is an incredibly uncertain and frightening time that immediately impacts every part of their life.

Just like Shea and his family. Their lives were turned upside down when thirteen-year-old Shea was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. The diagnosis meant they had to move – immediately - to another state for lifesaving treatment.

They were determined to get through it, together.

Shea and his family spent more than a year in one of Fight Cancer Foundation’s patient accommodation centres. He faced relentless cancer treatment day-after-day, including the extreme ups-and-downs of a stem cell transplant.

While cancer treatment is intense, kind-hearted supporters like you helped Shea’s family experience care and comfort at a time when they needed it most. The centre ensured he was able to access treatment and have a place to call home during the year-long-plus ordeal.

“As any family who has gone through cancer treatment knows, it is such a challenging time. We were so grateful to have a place to stay that could accommodate our whole family to be there for Shea. It was truly comforting that we could stay together during this difficult time, to support both Shea and each other” – Shea’s Mum.
