Keeping families

Fight Cancer Foundation's Accommodation Centres provide a stable, comfortable, and welcoming home away from home, relieving patients and their families of some of the financial and emotional burden caused by cancer.

Your donation can help reduce the impact of cancer.

Financially

Most families experience feelings of concern, anxiety or worry about how to manage the financial impact of cancer. The financial burden associated with cancer and its treatment includes out of pocket medical expenses, travel and accommodation costs, medication and even things like parking. It also concerns the loss of income, or income instability associated with serious illness and recovery.

A cancer diagnosis and treatment is frightening. A safe, welcoming home-away-from-home for the whole family can reduce the stress of finding somewhere to live in a new city, as well as concerns about the ongoing cost of inner-City accommodation. Our Accommodation Centres are

an emotional support for families in their time of need, linking them with other support services and people on a similar journey.

Traditional accommodation poses health risks to patients going through cancer treatment. Chaemotherapy leaves patients without an immune system, meaning they are at significantly higher risk of infection and their body being unable to fight them. Our Centres are designed with strong infection control protocols so families have the best chance of treatment and recovery.

The difference

Kim's Story

Kim was living the dream before her shock cancer diagnosis.

Thankfully, she secured a room at Hilltop, which became a crucial part of her recovery.

Melanie's Story

An aggressive breast cancer diagnosis wasn't in Melanie's plans.

With a gruelling treatment regime and hours of travel ahead of her, she was able to get a room at Hilltop.
"Hilltop was the hero in my story."

Isabella's Story

"I am going to kick cancer in the butt, Mum!"

Little Isabella was diagnosed with PreB-ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia) four days after Christmas 2019. She was just four years old.

Fight Cancer Foundation

Fight Cancer Foundation is a national charity dedicated to providing care, unique accommodation and support for cancer patients and their families and finding vital research into cancer treatment and cures.

Founded in 1989 as the Bone Marrow Donor Institute to establish Australia's first bone marrow registry and find a cure for leukaemmia, the organisation's broader scope now provides support services for patients impacted by all types of cancer.

Our support services include accommodation for rural and interstate patients accessing major treating hospitals in New South Wales, Tasman and Victoria, research into better treatments and cures.
